Michigan based jamgrass act Greensky Bluegrass is set to headline their biggest New York City show yet at the Playstation Theater on January 28th. The group has been on the rise ever since winning the Telluride Bluegrass main stage competition in 2006, here in New York, more and more people have fallen for their unique blend of psychedelic rock and bluegrass.
The group has come a long way since their humble beginnings in Ann Arbor Michigan. Currently, Greensky is on a winter tour in support of their album Shouted, Written & Quoted which was released this fall. Their latest project is by far their most polished and produced record yet, but it still maintains the soulful quality that defines Greensky’s sound. Check out “Past My Prime” below.
For a band that doesn’t have a drummer or electric instruments these guys can rock out quite a bit! They’ve got a lengthy repertoire of covers and originals they can bust out on any given night. Being able to mix it up and improvise is what makes it possible for them to play two full sets for fans at each show and what keeps Greensky’s fanbase dedicated to their music. Check out Greensky Bluegrass’s rousing take on Phish classic “Chalkdust Torture” below to see these bluegrass musicians rock out a bit.
