New York City funk staples Lettuce will return to Playstation Theater in Times Square on November 11th and 12th to close out their appropriately titled “Sounds Like A Party” Tour! It’s been another busy year for the funk band and the two shows in New York will wrap up an epic fall tour in style.
After dropping their excellent album Crush last year, Lettuce will release a new EP titled Mt Crushmore on November 11th. Building on the momentum from Crush, the new EP features tracks recorded during the same session; the band is sure to show off the new material in New York on the release date. So far there have been two singles released, “Mt. Crushmore” and “The Love You Left Behind”. Both tracks maintain the aggressive throwback funk style that Lettuce has always been known for. On “The Love You Left Behind,” the band is joined by Tedeschi Trucks Band vocalist Alecia Chakour for a track that captures the pure vintage sound of 1970s funk and soul. Alecia performs the song with undeniable style and emotion. If these Playstation Theater shows feature surprise guests let’s hope she comes out for a performance of this awesome track!
Lettuce is well known around the country for their epic festival sets that bring more and more new fans on board each year. While their studio work proves the group’s high level of professionalism and tightness, it’s their unique live shows that really set Lettuce apart from the rest. This is a band you most certainly need to see live to really appreciate. Guitarist Eric Krasno and the rest of the band play with a telepathy that only a group 20 years into their run can play with. Lettuce’s recent set at Lockn Festival in Arrington, VA is a perfect example of how they display their badass musicianship while also stretching out into unknown territory and developing some deep dark jams for the late night crowd at Lockn. Any Lettuce show is sure to be a wild ride for both the band and their fans but Lockn really got to another level.
New Yorkers can expect Lettuce to be building on both the momentum of their Lockn set and the whole “Sounds Like A Party” Tour. And if that’s not enough, these shows will also feature excellent support from Red Barrat on Friday the 11th and The Floozies on Saturday the 12th. Red Barrat is regarded as one of the best live bands around with their blend of world music and jazz. The Brooklyn-based 8 piece band is sure to be a perfect pairing for the funky style of Lettuce.
The Floozies will bring the party dynamic to the Playstation Theater on Saturday night. These guys have been winning over crowds all year; their blend of funk, electronic and hip hop is sure to get the place rowdy before Lettuce hits the stage.
Needless to say it’s clear to see where the best party in New York City will be next weekend! Get your tickets for Night One and Night Two. RSVP on the event page (Night One, Night Two) to let your homies know where the party’s going down this weekend!
