BangOn!NYC‘s Elements Lakewood Camping Festival stole the hearts of around four thousand souls this Memorial Day weekend in the middle of nowhere, Pennsylvania. BangOn! is infamous for throwing parties unlike any production company in New York City. Complete with large scale art installations and interactive attractions that allow attendees to completely immerse themselves in the moment, BangOn! truly bottles and sells a distinct, tailor-made brand of magic.
The scale and amount of captivating structures and stages made it clear this team is fiercely dedicated to their entrancing aesthetic.
Upon walking into the sprawling venue, you were greeted with an elaborately decorated main stage. Two giant light reflective wolves flanked the stage, howling at the sky and a crescent moon adorned with a single star. An LED screen projected visuals behind the musicians as they played. To the right of the main stage, a giant metal structure was placed for LED hoopers and fire spinners to transform music into yet another visual experience. Attendees were seen gazing down at the madness ensuing below. Guests also perched atop a renovated school bus far back from the stage (quite the view for the Tipper and Ott. sets of the weekend).
When venturing deeper inside the wooded venue, you’d stumble upon the many side stages. The most noteworthy were the water and fire stages. Delicately pushed back into the venue, the water stage provided an experience quite like what I imagine falling into Alice’s rabbit hole would be like. Walking through a tunnel of illuminated mirrors, past a glow in the dark psychedelic tapestry enclosure and a demented doll house art installation lead guests straight into a techno wonderland. Playa vibes were thick in the air in the forest of Pennsylvania. A tree house provided yet another structure for optimal stage views while artists like Lee Burridge and Kim Ann Foxman played their uplifting style of dance music. The water stage felt like a social gathering between friends with. Circles of attendees chatted as they danced.
The fire stage was an entirely different animal. As the spot for the Claptone masquerade bash and Claud VonStroke‘s hour and a half set, you could safely assume the space went completely above and beyond any expectations. Complete with pyrotechnics, a few more elevated structures to dance on and a giant tipi with plush mats- it was unlike any other performance space in the venue. Performers stood on either side of the musicians, decked out in full make up and matching costumes.
Elements Lakewood was truly magical in every sense of the word. The effort and intention behind every stage, art piece, and amenity was next level. Elements Lakewood is officially the GO-TO festival of 2018 and has rightfully earned it’s place as the quintessential kick off to festival season.
