If there is any positive to come out of the passing of a legend, it is the tributes we are sure to see in the coming weeks from artists throughout the live music scene. Prince is already a widely covered artist with bands such as Phish, Ween and Umphrey’s McGee putting their own touch on his catalog. If you’re getting out to a show this weekend, prepare to experience the brilliance that encapsulated Prince’s music.
Perhaps one of the best moments to pick in commemorating Prince is a tribute he performed for George Harrison at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Ceremony in 2004. In this performance, the guitar-shredding side of Prince is on full display. With all of his hits it’s easy to forget that at the end of the day Prince could shred just like Hendrix with all the guitar theatrics, edge, and sexual energy that comparison implies. There is nothing that will fill the void of this momentous loss in the music world, however, scouring the archives of Prince’s creations will surely fill us with an unending sense of love and appreciation that will be imparted in our hearts for years to come. Rest in Peace to the man, the myth, and immortal legend, Prince.
