The award for most experimental, free form artists creating both electronic music and visual art has to be granted to the hub of eclectic artists producing under the Wakaan label. The label includes bass music savants, Space Jesus, Yheti, Esseks, Toadface, Shlump, and fresh talent constantly sought out by Wakaan patriarch Liquid Stranger. Unlike some EDM labels, Wakaan creations don’t possess a consistent theme or genre between artists. What exactly is the defining feature they’ve got in common, then? It’s simple – all the music cranked out of the Wakaan label will quite literally make you feel like you’re on the homestretch of an intergalactic mission, zooming through the cosmos at record breaking speeds. Basically, their shit gets weird.
This Friday, Feb. 24, Wakaan frontrunners Liquid Stranger, Space Jesus, Esseks and Perkulat0r will be joining Webster Hall‘s Girls+Boy’s residents, Alex English, DALI and Hiyawatha to sauce New York City with the sexiest wobbles and launch us into a dimension far, far away.
The label’s latest release titled Brain Mirror was so graciously gifted to us by none other then Yheti & Toadface just over a week ago. The three track EP offers listeners a chance to open themselves up to the low end side of highly exploratory bass music. If you close your eyes while listening, it’ll hurl you right back to the last underground, sweat-drenched warehouse party you’ve attended. Check it out below and get familiar with what the Wakaan label is all about.
Without a doubt, tickets to Webster Hall this Friday are going to disappear FAST.
Secure your spot at the Wakaan party before it’s too late by scooping tickets here. RSVP to the event page here to rally your homies. We’ll see you fellow oddballs there!
